 Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Safely Light My Pool?

Pool lights provide a range of benefits for any swimming pool, including the ability to control the colour of your pool using LED lights and allowing for night swimming. These lights, however, can create a sense of apprehension, due to the use of electricity right next to water - thankfully, Essential Pools can help calm your mind.

Pool lights, when installed correctly, are incredibly safe. When using modern, low voltage lights, the risk is virtually non-existent. Pool lights must be installed during the construction of your pool and according to manufacturer instructions, to ensure the safety features are correctly configured. If the installation is not appropriately completed, the lighting system may continue to function, but it can allow electricity from unrelated electrical failures to enter the pool, causing harm to any occupants. The risk can be reduced by availing the services of a licensed electrician, who can ensure the correct installation of your pool lights. When your pool lights are correctly installed, you'll be able to easily monitor anyone swimming after dark, which can help prevent any accidents from occurring.

If you want to use your after the sun has set, you could benefit from pool lights. If you'd like the professionals at Essential Pools to review your installation and ensure it is safe for you and your family, contact us on (02) 6552 4096.

Are There Solutions Available If I Can't Find Pool Salt?

As a whole, both the Mid Coast Region and the entirety of Australia has entered a pool salt drought, making it difficult for pool owners to get the salt they need. The pool will be rendered unsafe for swimming without the required amount of pool salt, though, as bacteria and algae will begin to grow, and the extra work performed by your chlorinator may lead to damage occurring. Fortunately, Essential Pools, the leading pool store near Tuncurry, are the resident experts in pool salt, and we may be able to help you even if you cannot get your hands on enough pool salt for your pool. When you're looking for help with your pool, you can either complete our enquiry form, call our team on (02) 6552 4096, or visit the phenomenal Essential Pools team in-store.

A few alternative methods are available to keep your pool safe in the absence of the pool salt it regularly receives. The first thing you should consider is using magnesium pool salt, a higher grade of pool salt compared to the products regularly available. Though magnesium pool salt is typically used in mineral pool systems, your saltwater chlorinator can convert the magnesium salt into chlorine very well. Preventing the water within the pool from evaporating by way of a pool cover, thus conserving the chlorine already present, is an excellent alternative option if magnesium pool salts don't suit your needs. As the required dosage may have changed by the time you do finally get your hands on pool salt, make sure you perform a test of your pool water before you add your regular dosage. With or without your regular pool salt, there are things you can do to keep your pool safe.
